Bookatello is one person, in Ontario, Canada. This page says exactly what I collect, why, and how to make me stop. It’s short because I collect almost nothing.

What I collect

An email address, and only if you type one into the signup form. Optionally, the one-word answer to “who are these puzzles for?” if you choose to give it. If you signed up from a book’s bonus page, the code of that book, so I know which puzzles you’d actually like.

That’s the complete list. No name, no address, no phone number, no payment details — I never take a payment on this site.

Downloading the free puzzles

Downloading anything here requires no account, no email address, and sets no cookie. You can print every puzzle on this site without me learning anything about you.

Playing the puzzles here

The playable puzzles need no account and no email address either. While you play, the board saves your half-finished grid, your time and your daily streak into your own browser’s storage, on your own device, so you can close the tab and pick the puzzle back up where you left it.

That information never leaves your device. It is not a cookie, it is not sent to me, and I have no way to read it. Clearing your browser’s site data erases it, and the only thing you lose is your place in a puzzle.

Why I collect it, and your consent (PIPEDA)

Purpose: to email you free printable puzzles once or twice a month, and to occasionally mention a new book. Nothing else.

Under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), your consent is meaningful and it is express: after you submit the form I send one confirmation email, and nothing is sent to you until you click the link in it. Ignoring that email is a complete opt-out and your address is discarded.

You have the right to ask what I hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Email hello@bookatello.com and I’ll do it within 30 days, usually the same week. There is nothing to hold beyond an email address, a signup date and a segment word.

Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL)

  • Consent is express, recorded, and time-stamped through the double opt-in described above. I retain that record.
  • Every email identifies me by name and carries a postal address plus a working contact route.
  • Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works on the first click. Unsubscribes are honoured within 10 business days; in practice it’s immediate and automatic.
  • The address and the unsubscribe stay valid for at least 60 days after each message.
  • The cadence matches what the signup form promised: one or two emails a month.

Who else touches your address

One company: Kit (kit.com), the email service I use to store the list and send the messages. Their servers are outside Canada, which is normal for this kind of service, and by giving me your address you’re agreeing to that transfer. Kit processes your address on my instructions and for no other purpose.

Nobody else. I do not sell, rent, share, trade or lend your address to anyone, for any amount of money, ever.

Children (COPPA and common sense)

Some Bookatello puzzles are made for children. They are sold and given to adults, and every page about them is written for the adult doing the printing.

I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. There is no email capture, no form and no input field of any kind on the children’s pages of this site. There are no accounts here at all. If you believe a child has submitted an address, email hello@bookatello.com and I’ll delete it immediately and confirm that I have.

Analytics, and why there’s no cookie banner

I count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless: it sets nothing on your device, it doesn’t identify you, it doesn’t follow you to other websites, and it can’t be used to build a profile of you. It tells me how many people looked at a page, and that is all.

There are no advertising pixels on this site, no Facebook pixel, no Google Analytics, no session recording and no third-party trackers. That’s why there’s no cookie banner for you to click away — there are no cookies to warn you about.

Buying things

Books are sold by Amazon and packs by Etsy. When you click through to them you’re on their site, under their privacy policy, and they never tell me who you are.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, I’ll say so in the newsletter and update the date at the top.
